Walgrave Village Design StatementVDS

As you will be aware a group of villagers, independent of both the Parish and District Councils, has been looking carefully at the whole parish of Walgrave. They have studied both the historical development of the village and its relationship to the landscape and geology. They have tried to identify what gives Walgrave its special character.

From all of this they will prepare a “Village Design Statement” (VDS) which will, after consultation with a variety of bodies, be adopted by the District Council as part of its planning strategy and which would have to be referred to by anyone wanting to affect change in the village – whether a simple alteration to an existing property or a larger scale development.

We are now at the stage when we will be drawing up the draft of the final document. That part of the statement relating to the highways and infrastructure is virtually complete. The examination of the buildings themselves, the boundaries, the views, and the natural landscape will be completed in the next few weeks.

On the next few pages you can see some results from these investigations. They do contain a lot of facts and ideas but we would ask that you take the time to look at them as we need the Design Statement to reflect the views of all villagers.

So please feel free to make any comment or suggestion to any of the VDS steering group through the chairman Simon Mead (780064) or Jennie Holmes (781377) who is responsible for communications. Alternatively contact the Parish Council or the news team.
