Walgrave WI (Northamptonshire) is part of the largest organisation for women in the UK. There are 69 County or Area Federations with 207,000 members. Walgrave WI currently has 35 members and we are always happy to encourage more. We offer women the opportunity to influence local, national and world issues that affect today's society and a chance to learn new skills.

Our meetings are social occasions with a quest speaker, raffle and refreshments. Our programme is varied and interesting. We have regular events locally including a walking group, an ‘in stitches’ circle, and quiz and skittle teams. We are keen fund raisers for village charities and support events such as the Walgrave Open Gardens and Groove on the Green. Walgrave WI also provides cakes for the Cynthia Spencer Hospice at regular intervals. We participate in national events and outings, many of which are open to non-members. Recent outings included an evening at the Derngate to see the Calendar Girls, and we are regular visitors to Moulton Theatre.

Each year a bursary is awarded to one of our members to attend a course of their choosing. Recent courses have included Archaeology, Tai Chi, Astronomy, Cookery and Keep Fit. Lottery funding enabled every Walgrave WI member to go on a course of their own choice.

A  Christmas party is enjoyed each year at the Royal Oak, and we have a themed summer party every August in the Village Hall.

For more information, do come to our regular meeting - or just call in for a programme to see what's on in the months ahead.

We look forward to seeing you.

WALGRAVE COMMUNITY CINEMA

SHORT-MAT BOWLS CLUB

The club meets at the Village Hall on Wednesday afternoons from 2pm - 4pm throughout the year.

It is a very informal gathering but we do have occasional 'friendly' matches with other local clubs. We do not play in any leagues.

We would welcome new members. Previous playing experience is not necessary and bowls can be provided by the club. Tuition can be given but most new players pick it up as they go along.

If you are interested, come along and have a go - we would be delighted to see you.

VILLAGE VOICES

Contact: Pam Knight

Meeting venue: The Baptist Chapel rooms every Thursday from 7.30pm - 9.30pm

Village Voices was formed in September 1992 and has continued to flourish since. The music director is Ian Clarke who is also a very experienced organist.

We now have about 30 members and sing a variety of music. We usually sing some sort of Christmas cantata or choral work which ends with audience participation. During the Lent Term we may sing anything from Faure Requiem to Rutter's Requiem, or maybe a Mozart Mass. In the Summer Term we sing a more lighthearted programme of music, which can range from Madrigals, Barber-shop, Spirituals, Nursery Rhymes but with jazzy harmonies. We finish with a concert in the Village Hall and a soloist is usually included, e.g., trombone, violinist, pianist, didgeridoo! Afterwards there is usually a cold buffet supper with wine.

Anyone is most welcome to come along any Thursday to sing. No voice test is required. We welcome sopranos, altos, tenors and basses. If anyone needs to know more about the choir please contact Pam Knight.

WALGRAVE MONDAY CLUB

Meeting venue: The Baptist Chapel schoolroom each Monday afternoon between 1.45 and 3.45 pm

This is an afternoon get-together for the over 50's which was first started as a Derby & Joan Club in the 1960's. We play a variety of games including Bridge, Whist, Dominoes and Scrabble. The afternoon is a social time with tea & home-made cakes and an opportunity to meet friends and exchange news. New members are always welcome.

During the year we organize various outings to places of interest.

WALGRAVE AMBER FC

Meeting venue: Mawsley

Walgrave is home to one of Northamptonshire's oldest football teams. Formed in 1896, the club played in the Northamptonshire League (subsequently to become the United Counties League), the Kettering & District Combination League, and more recently the Northants Central Combination League. In the last years of the 20th century, the club was forced to fold, and played for a while under the name Walgrave Royal Oak.

After a gap of some 12 years, Walgrave Amber FC was reformed by David Rhodes. It formally re-affiliated with the Northants FA in 2007 and re-joined the Northants Combination League in time for the start of the 2008/9 season.

The club's original nickname, The Pipe Stems, has only recently been unearthed. Walgrave Amber now plays its home games at the nearby new village of Mawsley.

We also have a new club website: http://www.clubwebsite.co.uk/walgraveamber
