NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH and WALGRAVE

Crime is an unfortunate part of village life. Neighbourhood Watch (NHW) is all about reducing crime and reducing opportunities for criminals. Walgrave has a successful NHW, which works due to the cooperation existing between the residents, the NHW and the Police.

Most crime is carried out by opportunist criminals, so even taking basic security precautions and removing the opportunities will have a noticeable effect.

You are not expected to intervene if you see something suspicious - you are not the Police. Make a note and pass on the information ~ for example, if you see a strange vehicle parked in the village, bogus callers or a stranger behaving in a suspicious way.

If you have to look twice, report it!

Please take the following action immediately if you see

Crime in progress - dial 999

Other crime or suspicious event - dial 03000 111 222

or if you wish to remain anonymous, call

Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111

or report on line here

02.09.10 WALGRAVE - suspicious vehicle

There was a report this morning of an old white Ford Transit van going slowly twice around the block - Bakers Lane - Rectory Lane, just after 2.00 am. The driver appeared to be fair.

The occupants stopped and got out; investigating the pick-up vehicle parked on the green at the corner of the two streets and also looking around the building materials outside an adjacent property. Eventually a neighbours barking dog saw the vehicle leave - freewheeling apparently to avoid engine noise.

If you can add any information to this report, please contact Daventry Rural North SCT on SCTDaventryRuralNorth@northants.police.uk or nhw@walgrave-village.co.uk or call Northamptonshire Police on 03000 111 222

Thank you.

01.09.10 - ALERT - telephone canvassing

This is a message from Northamptonshire Police - 01.09.10

MEMBERS of the public are warned to be on their guard against telephone canvassers stating they are phoning on behalf of Northamptonshire Police.

A number of people, all elderly, have recently contacted the Force with concerns about calls they have received.

On each occasion, the caller said they were conducting a crime survey on behalf of Northamptonshire Police.

But each time the number was withheld and it is possible that these calls may be part of a scam.

Northamptonshire Police does conduct telephone research – but the Force’s researchers will always pass on their names, which can be verified via the customer contact centre or switchboard.

The public are also advised to be extremely wary about calls purporting to be selling advertising on behalf of Northamptonshire Police – again, these calls should be verified, but routinely the Force does not endorse any calls of this nature.

Angie Price, the Force’s Customer Relations Manager, said: “My advice to any member of the public receiving such calls would be to verify in the first instance who they are speaking to before passing on any information.

“As far as I am aware, no crimes have been committed, but it does seem odd that the recent calls we have received expressing concern have been from elderly members of the community.”

If you have concerns, or would like to check on a caller, please contact Northamptonshire Police on 03000 111 222

01.09.10 - REMINDER - on-line reporting

Local residents are being reminded that they can report non-urgent crimes online here.

The Force website has a wide variety of online forms that members of the public can fill in to report a non-emergency crime, report suspicious behaviour, tell their local Safer Community Team what their priorities are and ask the Chief Constable questions.
