Red Springs Nature Reserve, Pocket Park

The four-acre site was given to the village in 1992, and is managed by the Parish Council. It is located on the eastern fringe of the village, on the Kettering Road. Originally, farmland with a marshy northern end, local residents and volunteers planned and planted the layout. Streams and pond are fed from natural springs with an unusually high iron content which leaves a red deposit in the water - hence the name Red Springs.

A further gift of mature ponds and a small wooded area in the adjacent field was incorporated into the Reserve in 2001.

Managed with the object of conserving all types of wild life, and providing an interesting walk for children and adults alike, there are footpaths running through the meadowland from the centre of the village, giving easy access.

The Reserve is joined with the Northamptonshire Pocket Park scheme and through this we have received advice and some financial support.
