The Church of England in Walgrave
There is a thriving and welcoming Christian community in Walgrave. Church membership is over fifty. However a much greater number of villagers attend Church services sometime during the year, often to the special services such as Christmas, Easter, Mothering Sunday, Harvest Festival and Remembrance Sunday.
Every second Sunday of the month a very popular Children's Family service is held, everyone is welcome and refreshments are served after the service. Sunday School is provided jointly with Walgrave Baptist Chapel Junior Church during term time on the first and third Sunday of each month. Little Fishes for Mums, Dads, Grandparents and Children under 5, meets on the first Thursday of each month at 2:15 p.m. at St Peter’s for a story, a song and a prayer, cup of tea and fellowship. There are study courses in Lent and in Advent.
Saint Peter's Church Walgrave is a part of a Benefice with the Churches in Hannington, Old, and Scaldwell. The benefice is lead by the non stipendiary priest-in-charge Rev’d. Karen Jongman who was appointed in July 2004
Our services cater for the whole community. On the first Sunday of the month there is a Holy Communion Service at 8:30 a.m. Common Worship order one in contemporary language is used. On the second Sunday of the month there is the Children’s and Family Service at 9:45 a.m. followed by refreshments. On the third Sunday of the month there is an Evensong service at 6 p.m., using the order of service from the book of common prayer. Guest preachers are often a feature of this service. A Family Communion Service is held on the fourth Sunday of the month at 9:45 a.m. If there is a fifth Sunday in the month a United Benefice Service is held in one of the Benefice Churches at 10:00 a.m. The programme of services is displayed on a notice board inside the Church porch. The details of the next service are displayed on the Church notice board facing the high street.
The Church is very active socially in the village and puts on many events. Recently the social calendar has featured, a garden party, a barn dance, a harvest supper and produce auction, a concert, a sponsored bicycle ride, a children's day and picnic, a promises auction and a dinner dance. Details are circulated around the village please come and join in with the Church community.
